Dance Recitals

• Recital will be held in the Main Auditorium of the 2|42 Community Center, Brighton
• Saturday morning, December 9, 2023 | 11am performances start
• Dancers should arrive dressed in costume by 10:15am at the latest

• School For The Arts Dance recitals are free to attend and we have plenty of seating.
  Please invite as many friends and family as you would like. Our students love performing to a full house!
• Doors open for audience 10:30am

To help your student prepare for their recital performance there is nothing better than practicing.

Your instructor will work with your student to prepare for a successful recital experience. In addition we have provided some at home tips for a top performance.

• Schedule Mock Performances
  Invite a parent, sibling, grandparent, or even a stuffed animal to sit and watch your student practice their recital dance(s).
• Dress Rehearsal
  Dancers should come dressed according to the guidelines below. This includes costume, shoes, accessories, hair, etc.. This is an important part of preparing dancers for the recital experience and will allow Ms. Amy the opportunity to make any suggestions or tweaks if necessary. 
  
• Know What to Expect
  Students will sit with parent volunteers* in our reserved performers section and enter for dances from backstage. The performers section is not only another way to designate and celebrate our performers, it also helps students to stay focused and prepared for their performance. In addition this seating method promotes a more enjoyable audience experience and transition time between performances.

All volunteers will be able to see their dancers perform.

At least one recital stage mom is needed for each class. A minimum of two moms for each section of Growing in Dance and Ballet + Tap classes with costume changes. Volunteers will sit with dancers in the designated section, assist with helping dancers on and off stage, and with backstage costume changes for combo classes.  If you are interested in volunteering as a stage mom please send an email to brenda.hively@242community.com.

We are also looking for someone to volunteer as our recital photographer. This will include taking photos of each class when they return to the stage at the end of the evening and also to take our school group photo. Please send an email to brenda.hively@242community.com if this is something you can help with.

Dress rehearsal is an important time for students to get familiar with the stage, our tech team to learn the dancers’ cues, and for Ms. Amy to provide additional costume tips. Dance dress rehearsals are held in the 2|42 Brighton Main Auditorium which is located on the south end of the field on the lower level.

Due to usage of the auditorium for church rehearsal and services we are not able to use the space Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Classes held during those times are scheduled for Tuesday evening dress rehearsals. We apologize for any scheduling inconvenience.

Dancers should come to dress rehearsal in their full costume, accessories and hair done as if this were the performance.

Each class will have a uniform look. Please be sure your dancer(s) are wearing the correct color tights, shoes, and other costume pieces listed below.

Please do not wear extra jewelry or hair accessories other than the ones provided or nail polish for the recital performance. Thank you for your cooperation.

ALL DANCERS | Hair and Makeup:

-Growing in Dance, Ballet and Tap female students should have their hair in a doughnut style bun on the crown of the head

-Hip Hop female students should wear a high ponytail

-Boys can wear their hair how they choose

-Makeup is not required but preferred and highly recommended by Ms. Amy and does help to complete the stage look as well as helps a student’s features to stand out on stage under bright lights.  A little brown shadow, black mascara, pink blush, and red lipstick are suggested options. No nail polish please.
