SFTA Dance Guidelines

Our SFTA Dance guidelines are designed to promote an environment of safety, learning, and fun while helping to maintain our dance space.

We value our students and our teachers in their commitment to dance.

Dance Studio Note:

Please help us keep our floors clean. No outside shoes are allowed on the studio floor, dance shoes only in the studio please. Dancer and caregivers should remove shoes before entering the dance studio.

HAIR, CLOTHING, FOOTWEAR GUIDELINES

Dance Hair for All Classes:

  • For all classes hair that is long enough pulled back in bun or ponytail

Growing in Dance Classes:

  • Growing in Dance and Growing in Dance Pre-Ballet


~Girls Clothing: leotard and tights

~Girls Footwear: pink ballet shoes (no glitter on shoes please)

~Boys Clothing: comfortable attire for easy movement

 Please be sure pants hang above shoes and stay on waist

~Boys Footwear: black ballet shoes

  • Growing in Dance Pre-Tap

    ~Girls Clothing: leotard* and tights

    *Dance shorts may be worn over leotard during tap if desired

    ~Girls Footwear: black Mary Jane style tap shoes

    ~Boys Clothing: t-shirt and black gym pants* (no jeans or sweatpants)

    *Please be sure pants hang above shoes and stay on waist

    ~Boys Footwear: black tie up style tap shoes

  • Growing in Dance Together:


    ~Dancer + Caregiver Clothing: Comfortable attire for easy movement

    ~Dancer Footwear: ballet shoes are encouraged (pink for girls, black for boys), students may dance in grippy socks for this class

    ~Caregiver Footwear: no shoes in dance studio please

Ballet + Tap Classes:

  • Ballet Classes

~Girls Clothing: leotard*and tights

*Ballet skirt may be worn over leotard during ballet if desired

~Girls Footwear: pink ballet shoes (Capezio shoes recommended, no glitter on shoes please)

~Boys Clothing: t-shirt and black gym pants* (no jeans or sweatpants)

*Please be sure pants hang above shoes and stay on waist

~Boys Footwear: black ballet shoes (no glitter on shoes please)

  • Tap Classes


    ~Girls Clothing: leotard* and tights

    *Dance shorts may be worn over leotard during tap if desired

    ~Girls Footwear: black Mary Jane style tap shoes

    ~Boys Clothing: t-shirt and black gym pants* (no jeans or sweatpants)

    *Please be sure pants hang above shoes and stay on waist

    ~Boys Footwear: black tie up style tap shoes

  • Ballet + Tap Combo Classes

Hip Hop + Jazz Classes:

  • Hip Hop Classes


~Girls Clothing: leotard with shorts over top or t-shirt and leggings

~Boys Clothing: t-shirt and gym pants* (no jeans)

*Please be sure pants hang above shoes and stay on waist

~Dancer Footwear: Dancers participating in classes beginning in January 2024 will need to obtain the class shoe as part of their recital costume. Students may wear these shoes for class.

Please purchase now to ensure your student has the correct shoe.

*Return students, if shoes have been previously worn outside they should not be worn outside on dance class days prior to class and should be cleaned prior to wearing in the studio

  • Hip Hop + Jazz Combo Classes

    Please see guidelines above for hip hop and jazz classes

Musical Theatre Classes:

~Clothing: leotard* and tights

 *Dance shorts may be worn over leotard if desired

~Girls Footwear: black jazz shoes

~Boys Clothing: t-shirt and gym pants* (no jeans or sweatpants)

*Please be sure pants hang above shoes and stay on waist

~Boys Footwear: black jazz shoes

Special Friends (All Abilities) Classes:

~Clothing: Dancers should wear comfortable dance apparel, t-shirts, sweatpants, shorts, etc.

~Footwear: black jazz shoes or grippy socks

Adult Ballet + Conditioning Classes:

~Clothing: Easy to move in, pants that stay on the waist and are above the shoes

~Footwear: Ballet shoes required, split sole preferred
