Performance Class (Ages 7-14) is the perfect introduction to acting for young performers. Through lively games, imaginative exercises, and playful scene work, students build essential skills in voice, movement, and character creation. The supportive class environment encourages self-expression while helping each child grow in confidence. As the term progresses, students prepare for an end-of-session showcase where they shine on stage for family and friends. Every participant leaves with new friendships and wonderful memories of their acting journey. Enrolling in an SFTA performance class ensures your student is part of the show. These in-class auditions are designed to assist us in determining which students will be cast for which roles. To help students prepare for their in-class casting audition, casting sides will be sent approximately one week prior to class. She has been involved in theater since high school and has performed in over a dozen shows, as well as directed both main stage and black box productions. She has also taught and directed several summer camps and is currently a member of an improv group. Acting has been a huge part of Lisa’s life for many years, and she especially loves helping kids find their confidence, creativity, and ability to shine on stage. He also pursued conducting at Juilliard as a student of Ronald Braunstein, and as a frequent auditor of the conducting classes of Jorge Mester and Otto Werner Muller. Upon graduation, he was among the first cellists selected by Michael Tilson Thomas to perform in Miami's celebrated New World Symphony, an ensemble with which he performed and toured internationally for three seasons. He was subsequently hired as Associate Principal Cellist of the Florida Philharmonic, a post he held for 13 years, finishing his tenure as Principal Cellist. Over his 25-year orchestral career, he performed under dozens of legendary maestros, including Leonard Bernstein, Sir Georg Solti, and Seiji Ozawa. As a soloist and chamber musician, he was a finalist in both the National Society of Arts and Letters Cello Competition and the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition. After relocating his family to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where his wife is earning a PhD in Anthropology, Sigurdson is excited to finally be pursuing his solo career in earnest. His debut recording of favorite cello solos along with Chicago-based harpist Nichole Young, entitled After a Dream, is now available. In between concerts and recitals, he remains committed to training and inspiring musicians of all ages throughout the greater Detroit area. In addition to cello, he also teaches bass, piano, flute, trombone, guitar, and ukulele. Art Lab: Create & Explore (Ages 7-13) Art Lab is a hands-on creative studio where young artists can explore different materials, techniques, and ways to express themselves through art. Each six-week session offers a new creative experience, so students can join for one session or continue throughout the year. No previous art experience is required—just bring your imagination and get ready to create! We will have the opportunity to play with creating textures. Students will also explore different papers and incorporate unique media into your watercolor painting process! We will be mostly working from enlarged photographs; students may bring their reference or paint from a selection of images offered by the instructor. If your drawing skills are tentative, there will be an option to trace/transfer enlarged images to watercolor paper. (Drawing instruction and composition suggestions will be offered.) Session 1: September 11th - October 23rd Session 2: October 23rd - December 11th (no class week of November 23rd) Class time - Fridays 9:00am-10:00am All students will receive a SFTA t-shirt The instructor will assess the class list and may suggest students move to another class time if available, as needed. Class ages are provided for classes based on experience and instruction level.
